Young people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes are at risk of long-term complications, including kidney and heart disease. AdDIT is studying an observational cohort of youth with type 1 diabetes along with a group of healthy age-matched subjects and longitudinally assessing both kidney function and cardiovascular function. We are measuring biological factors, including urinary biomarkers, psychosocial, and social factors to identify and better understand who is at risk for the development of chronic kidney disease.

We have created an advisory council consisting of patients and their families. This council ensures patients can take part in all aspects of the project and have a strong voice in shaping the research agenda.
