As 2019 comes to a close, we are taking a look back at a few highlights from the past year. Not only have we made progress in supporting the successful delivery of our 18 research projects, but we have also taken major steps in the advancement of our patient engagement, curriculum development, and knowledge translation activities. In addition, 2019 has marked the launch of several infrastructure initiatives that will enhance capacity for patient-oriented kidney research on a national scale.
We would like to take a moment to thank the members of our community that continue to shape our work in meaningful ways. We are proud of the progress we have made to date and are looking forward to what the new year has in store for our network!
The Indigenous Peoples’ Engagement & Research Council announces new logo | Developed by graphic designer Jessalyn King through a collaborative process involving all IPERC members, the logo integrates a range of imagery that represents the council’s diverse composition. Learn more
Launch of KidneyLink | In July 2019 we launched new website (kidneylink.ca) to facilitate patient participation in kidney research. Learn more
The Canadian Nephrology Trials Network moves forward with sustainability plan | The CNTN promotes a culture of collaboration within the Canadian kidney research community and offers resources to help investigators develop and conduct clinical trials and overcome barriers to recruitment. Learn more
KidneyPro goes live | Kidney Pro is a new self-directed module that walks users through a general overview of health research and the landscape for kidney research in Canada. Learn more
Formation of the Can-SOLVE CKD Patient Governance Circle | Due to the significant growth in interested patient partners over the past year, the Can-SOLVE CKD Patient Council evolved into our new Patient Governance Circle. Learn more
Launch of “Storytelling with Impact” online training program | To help network members gain the skills and confidence to share their stories in a health care setting, Can-SOLVE CKD has launched a new online training program. “Storytelling with Impact” is a six-week online workshop that provides patient partners with coaching and tools to support compelling and impactful storytelling. Kidney Check program starts screening in BC | We have started screening in 4 BC communities (Kyuquot, Boothroyd, Tobacco Plains, and Tseshaht). The project is led out of Manitoba with Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario getting ready for screening soon. The program is working to implement a better way of identifying and treating kidney disease and diabetes in Indigenous communities. Learn more
Our 2019 annual meeting in Montreal highlighted our 18 research projects as we continue to make progress towards better care and outcomes for all Canadians living with chronic kidney disease. We also celebrated our growing community of patient partners, researchers, policy-makers, and operations staff! It was a wonderful weekend of sharing, learning, and connecting. Learn more
