At Can-SOLVE CKD, we are proud to acknowledge National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, 2019. This national campaign takes place every year to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

For all of us across the Can-SOLVE CKD Network, the celebration of culture and heritage is at the heart of our efforts to ensure the best possible kidney health for all Canadians. Chronic Kidney disease disproportionately affects Indigenous communities and those living in rural and remote locations. Indigenous people as patients, researchers, and stakeholders have diverse ways of seeing, doing, knowing and being that benefit the health research we are doing as a network. We are committed to working with partners across the country to ensure all Canadians receive the best-recommended care, regardless of location or ethnicity.

This commitment is reflected in many of our activities across our diverse national network as we incorporate many different voices and perspectives and work to improve access to life-saving diagnosis and treatment options across Canada. Our particular focus on eliminating gaps between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, and partnership with our Indigenous Peoples’ Engagement and Research Council (IPERC), ensures the unique needs and perspectives of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people are represented. We asked our IPERC members what National Indigenous Peoples Day means to them:

The Can-SOLVE CKD Network would like to thank our Indigenous partners for their guidance, wisdom, and continued efforts to appropriately incorporate, address, and respect the unique needs and perspectives of Indigenous peoples.
